Frequently asked questions

How do I make a card?

Tap + to type a card (free). With Plus, tap Say a phrase on the Study tab, speak, and tap Done (or hold it and let go) — the app makes the finished card. You can also paste text (tap +, then “Have text already?”) and Plus turns it into a set of cards for you to review.

What is Plus and what does it cost?

Plus builds cards for you from your voice or from text, and adds a natural spoken voice to cards. It is a subscription billed by Apple: yearly (with a 1-week free trial for new subscribers) or monthly. Prices are shown in the app in your currency. Everything else in the app is free.

Are there limits?

Plus has fair-use limits per subscription (all your devices together): each month up to 300 voice cards, 30 pastes (up to 4,000 characters and 40 cards each) and 1,000 spoken clips (up to 150 characters each). A voice card is up to 30 seconds of speech. Using all three to the full in one month can reach the overall fair-use limit sooner. During the free trial: up to 50 voice cards, 5 pastes and 150 spoken clips. Anything past a limit waits in the app and finishes on its own when the limit resets — at the start of the next month, or when your plan starts after the free trial.

Without Plus, every device can try it for free: 3 voice cards and 1 paste, with spoken audio for up to 10 of the cards they make. If free tries are busy, try again the next day.

How do I cancel Plus?

In the app: Settings (the gear on the Study tab) → Plus → Manage subscription. Or on your iPhone: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Vocab Cards. Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date. You keep Plus until the end of the period you paid for.

What happens to my cards if Plus ends?

Nothing is deleted. Your cards, recordings and the spoken audio Plus added stay on your phone, and you can keep studying, editing and making cards yourself for free.

I reinstalled the app or got a new iPhone. How do I get Plus back?

Open Settings (the gear on the Study tab) → Get Plus → Restore purchases while signed in with the same Apple ID you used to subscribe. (Cards are stored on your device only, so they don't move to a new phone.)

Can I get a refund?

Refunds are handled by Apple: visit reportaproblem.apple.com.

The microphone isn't working.

The app needs microphone permission to hear you. If you declined the prompt, go to Settings → Vocab Cards and enable Microphone (and Speech Recognition for free on-device transcription), then reopen the app.

A card is wrong.

Cards made by Plus show “Made by Plus from your voice” (or “from your text”) with Edit the first time you study them — tap it to correct the card. Cards Plus wasn't sure about wait in the Inbox for you to keep, edit or delete before they reach your lessons.

Where is my data stored?

Your flashcards are stored on your device. Plus keeps a copy of what it made for up to 24 hours on our server, so a retry never charges twice. See our Privacy Policy for what Plus sends and to whom.
